Meeting Reports - The 6th international conference of Palaeogeography concluded successfully in Nanjing

The 6th International Conference on Paleogeography was successfully held on May 17-20, 2024, in Nanjing, China. 796 scholars from 22 countries gathered together and contributed a brilliant academic event around "life evolution, palaeogeography, and resource effects".

It was co-sponsored by the International Society of Palaeogeography, the Palaeontological Society of China, China University of Petroleum, Beijing, the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Palaeogeography, and the Lithofacies Palaeogeography Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry, and organized by Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NIGPAS).

Under the guidance of esteemed leaders like Professor Shenghe Wu and Professor Jun Wang, the conference featured prominent figures including academician Professor Suping Peng and Professor Longde Sun. Notably, the entire leadership of the International Society of Palaeogeography, representing countries worldwide, attended, and showcasing the event's global significance.

The opening ceremony, led by Professor Renbin Zhan, set the tone for scholarly excellence and collaboration. Distinguished speakers from diverse backgrounds, including Professor Divid A.T. Harper and Professor Carlos Zavala, delivered speeches, emphasizing international cooperation.

With over 890 abstracts submitted from 200 institutions, the conference hosted 42 sub-sessions and 2 symposiums across seven thematic areas. Presentations included 566 oral reports and 228 exhibition board reports, showcasing the latest research in paleogeography.

The conference recognized outstanding contributions through awards like "Awards for Best Presentations by Young Scientists/Students," "Best Oral Presentation," and "Best Poster Presentation," highlighting excellence in research.

At the end of the meeting, Professor Benzhong Xian, Secretary General of the International Society of Palaeogeography, summarized the conference's achievements, emphasizing its role in fostering academic exchange and setting the stage for future collaborations in paleogeography. The event not only advanced knowledge but also underscored the global importance of paleogeographic research.
